Alter is a Toronto-based sauna and ice bath studio. Our mission is to make hot + cold more approachable and routine through a warm, welcoming, and community-oriented atmosphere.

Alter offers two types of sessions: Self-Led Drop-Ins and Classes. All sessions begin with a warm welcome and seamless check-in by Front Desk. Our multi-hour Drop-Ins allow guests to shape their own experience with the support of one of our Facilitators. Our signature Classes allow guests to be led through the experience by one of our Instructors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guest support: For Self-Led Drop-Ins
- Provide introduction to first-time guests (i.e., space layout, session etiquette, safety guidelines)
- Monitor upcoming reservations and prepare accordingly (e.g., first-timers, large groups, scent allergies)
- Check in - as appropriate - to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction
- Ensure the safe and responsible practice of hot + cold exposure
- Intervene - as needed - if a guest requires assistance (e.g., dehydration, light-headedness).
- Session management: For Self-Led Drop-Ins
- Maintain a clean, organized and respectful environment
- Manage music volume levels
- Apply steam and simple aromatherapy in the sauna
- Educate guests on steam etiquette and high-level aromatherapy benefits (included in Alter onboarding/training)
- Provide ice bath guidance - as needed - through the use of simple sound healing instruments and foundational breathwork exercises (included in Alter onboarding/training)
- Support seamless transitions between shifts and sessions
- Instructor support: For Classes
- Before class: check-in and coordinate with the Instructor on guest management, aromatherapy preferences and class plan
- During class (and in accordance with class plan): apply aromatherapy and educate guests on its benefits during the sauna portion, use sound healing instruments during the ice bath portion
- Throughout class: ensure guest safety, answer guest questions, maintain an organized and respectful environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passionate about wellness: An interest in hot + cold exposure and/or overall wellness.
- Positive attitude: A friendly demeanour that contributes to a welcoming atmosphere.
- Guest-oriented: Impeccable interpersonal skills to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Reliable and punctual: Ability to consistently show up on-time and perform tasks accurately.
- Team player: Ability to work collaboratively with our various staff members.
- Attention to detail: Ability to maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Multitasker: Capacity to manage multiple guests and tasks in a hectic environment.
- Physical stamina: Ability to stand for multiple hours and carry heavy items.
